A brief history of Teatro Breve:

Teatro Breve which translates into “Brief Theatre" began as an improvisational amusement for an audience.  They were frequently done during the intermissions of a longer play.  As the genre evolved, the plays became scripted, and eventually playwrights delved into authoring works in this genre.  Teatro Breve is characterized by three elements: it’s brief, it has a surprise, and it’s “sensational” theatre.  In other words, the play shouldn’t exceed 30 minutes, it should have a twist near the end, and  its main goal is to cause a “sensation” or “reaction” in the audience.  This collection of plays we are presenting this year date from the 1400’s to the present day, and they all share something in common: death.  Besides experiencing seven centuries of theatre in one night, you’ll find that death as a subject matter has remained as a topic of endless fascination.  Death is sometimes viewed as comical, sad, frightening, etc.  Seeing that Halloween is upon us our goal remains the same as it has been for the last few years:  we want to amuse, thrill, and provide a chill or two…
