I was raised in Irapuato, a small town in central rural Mexico. I moved to the United States in December of ‘79 to finish High School and received a degree in Anthropology. I later received a second degree in Spanish, with a focus on medieval Spanish literature. My first career was in Ballet till he retired his “dancing shoes” in the late 80’s. I’ve appeared in well over 50 stage productions, choreographed more then two dozen shows, written more then ten plays, translated more then a dozen, been in several films, was a series regular in the Spanish telenovela "La Ley del Silencio". I also work extensively as a voice over artist; be it Nasa, Gordon's Jewelers, or The Pork Council, my voice has been used in a wide range of numerous, and diverse films, documentaries and commercials by either lending my voice to the narration, or dubbing the film into Spanish. In one project alone I distinctively dubbed 6 different actors into Spanish.
As a director in the in the last year I directed "Vodka & Kisses", “The Soul Gatherer”, “Theatre of Love”, “Theatre of Death”, “…a moment in the life of Willa Dee Arvis” for MBS Productions; “Surviving Grace” for Rover Dramawerks; “Snow White in the Enchanted Forest” and “Sleeping Beauty in the Land of Oz” for Plano Parks and Recreation; “Queer Anarchy” at The M.A.C. along with the staged reading of "Papa Bear & Goldilocks" at the Hub Theater.
Recent roles include Yavar in “Kiss the Boys”, Euel in “…a moment in the life of Willa Dee Arvis”, Ellard Simms in “The Foreigner”, Brian in “Dream Café”, Mark in “The Soul Gatherer” and Felix in “The Odd Couple”, and Don Gonzalo in "Don Juan Tenorio."
Upcoming plays that I’ve written that will be produced are “The Beulaville Baptist Book Club presents a Bur-less-Q Nutcracker!” which will run this December, “The Lovers” based on the Medieval true story of the Lovers of Teruel which will run in February ‘08, and am assisting Alejandro de la Costa in translating/adapting Dante’s “Inferno” so it can be done on the stage in the Spring of ’08.
I am the founder and Artistic Director MBS Productions. Since 2004 I've produced over 20 works for the stage that were either world premiers, new translations or new adaptations of existing works which is the focus of my theatre company. My play “Kiss the Boys” received the 2007 Column Award nomination for Best New Play. I am proud to say that besides “Kiss the Boys” every MBS Productions show so far has garnered a nomination for these prestigious awards, be it for acting, set design, etc. I also created, produced & have directed the popular and ever evolving “Theatre of Death”. www.Mark-BrianSonna.com lists my current activities and projects as a performer and www.MBSProductions.net lists my company's information. .
I would like to die at the age of 103 by falling into an orchestra pit after playing to a full house and receiving a standing ovation.
