Guide Pick - Guidelive.com, 2007

Welcome to the most unusual evening of theatre...

In one evening you will thrill as we present several short plays dealing with the subject of death, dying and murder...

These play are known as Teatro Breve, or Brief Theatre.  They have been captivating audiences for the last several centuries; dating back to the Middle Ages.

A few years ago we had the pleasure of introducing this unusual style of theatre for the first time in Texas.  Every year we choose several different plays that provoke, frighten, amuse and enthrall...

Won't you join us?

In the meantime...

...sweet dreams

Mark-Brian Sonna

Every year our show garners countless praise from critics and the media.  Here is a small sampling of what has been said about our show:

BEST BET  ‘Theatre of Death’ marks Halloween with macabre plays

Mark-Brian Sonna grew up in Mexico, where he developed a love of Spanish-language theater, including a form dating back to the Middle Ages: teatro breve — “short plays,” often with gruesome themes. “Theatre of Death: The Deadliest Plays” is the return of Sonna’s popular holiday show. The show is up of classic plays (some written as long ago as 1448) and new ones written specifically for this production — by Sonna, Alejandro de la Costa and teen-aged playwright Travis Mayo. Expect some sexually charged moments.  - Arnold Wayne Jones, Dallas Voice, October 2007

"The Amusement Park Haunted House Ride of your dreams...or maybe your nightmares? Theatre of Death titillates, appalls, startles, transcends, inspires childlike gales of laughter as well as the possible need for a barf bag.... Enjoy this one of-a-kind, adults-only, to-die-for excursion into a mortifying scene." - Alexandra Bonifield, Independent Arts Writer

"The company of six who performed throughout the evening were uniformly exceptional.  James Casarez, Jr. has a commanding voice and quite descriptive facial expressions... Maria Robles is quite versatile—she can play drama or comedy equally well....Jared Culpepper is a master of foreign accents... Nancy Lamb was a force in action...so powerful it probably registered new values on The Richter Scale.  Michael Johnson was a delight in drag....Kelley Vest has mastered the art of the witty aside and employed it to great effect.  ....Mr. Sonna’s direction of Theatre of Death was also remarkable....This review cannot possibly recreate what a truly unparalled entertainment Theatre of Death is.  You owe it to yourself to experience the searing intensity of this evening in person."  Joseph Melnicoff, Broadwayworld.com

"Best Bet: 'Theatre of Death' packs chills and heat" -Arnold Wayne Jones, Dallas Voice

"Teatro Breve, also known as Brief Theatre, has been around for a long time. (Like, the Middle Ages.)  Each play is...brief, surprising, and sensational. For the Halloween season, the troupe has chosen frightening and thought-provoking plays with one common theme. You guessed it: death." -D Magazine

"Death Be Very Proud.  Theatre of Death makes the end short and sensational.  Looking for a great date night this fall? Sick of the same old dinner and a movie?... Look no further than the Theatre of Death, seven short plays about murder, death and dying..."  -Andrea Grimes, Dallas Observer

"...what has become one of the more interesting Halloween theatrical events, MBS Productions’ third Theatre of Death is an evening of teatro breve, or short, macabre plays."  - Mark Lowry, Fort Worth Star Telegram
